Just to let everyone know, Tom, Spence and myself did go on this 12.8 mile (XC) run. Hard start with a big hill but both T & S enjoyed the view at the top of the Severn bridges in the distance. Later we even passed a 5 km race going in the opposite direction. We 3 acted like a mobile crowd cheering the 40 or so runners on. Tom even new the back marker marshall. The run ended in rain but the drinks in the pub after pub were well earned. T & S's view of the run.... they both want to do it again.

Chris

Hi All,

I would like to do a Sunday run ( at last you cry) of along the Cotswold Way, the Wootton under edge to Old Sodbury section. It's about 12 miles long. A mix of fields, roads, tracks through woods with some very steep hills to necgotiate up and down. I would like to meet at 9.30 am at Old Sodbury, just opposite the pub The Old Dog Inn along Cotswold Lane. From there we fill the cars up we need, leaving the rest parked up in a rather nice viollage so they should be safe, and head for Wootton Under Edge. Park on the B4058, opposite Valley Rd. The run takes us down Valley Rd, on to the Cotswold Trail, which is clearly marked.

Old Sodbury

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&source=hp&q=old+sodbury+pub&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Wootton -U-E http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&source=hp&q=old+sodbury+pub&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

The run will take about 2 hours, aiming for an average pace of about 9 minutes mile pace with fast bits run at around 7 minutes mile pace ( allows for the odd stop and admire the view). Probably best to take water and perhaps a mars bar to keep you going. We'll run this as a group so no one is to get left behind.

On returning to Old Sodbury, we drive back to Wootton, pick up the other cars and head for the The Royal Oak - on B4058 on the way back to Bristol - in the town for a well deserved drink. I think they serve food too.

I'd like to point out that I'm only going to run this if the weather is ok. If it's pouring with rain or very foggy, then this run isn't worth doing and would be no fun...and yes, I know I'm a big wooss. Can you please let me know if you're up for it. I will keep an eye out for the weather forecast and will confirm we have a go on Friday/Sat early pm. We will need at least two cars too!!!!

Regards

Chris

Up the portway, and back into a headwind. Fair number of other runners out, including several SRC members :) Rob managing to attract the attention of Dave S who was running across the other side of the river on the towpath with a bellowing "DAAAAVE!!" - obviously refined from years of football chanting!

Sorry, I have posted this in General as well, but didn't know where to put it:

Calling all shift workers! Is there anyone else out there who gets up at silly O clock and is struggling with running?

I'm currently getting up in the middle of the night (3.45am) to start work every day and not surprisingly I'm really struggling with fatigue levels.

I however, still want to run, but have identified that running after 6pm is no good for me, as the adrenalin is still pumping and I can't sleep.

But more than ever I need the support of a group to encourage me to keep running. It can be hard enough at the best of times to gee yourself up for a run, let alone when your body clock is broken.

I wondered if there were any other shift workers in the club, who might want to run during the day - almost form a 'self help group' as it is such a struggle when you are always tired.

Any takers? Or just anyone who is about in the day, to encourage us poor fatigued runners on. It would be a huge help to me.

Yours, tired of Bedminster. X

Is anyone interested in barefoot running?

As some of you will know, I have been barefoot running a large proportion of my runs for over a year now. I am going to run the Bristol Half Marathon barefoot in support of an orphanage for HIV children and babies in India. If anyone is interested in sponsoring me in the Bristol Half or in finding out more about barefoot running, please do not hesitate to get in touch by email or phone (0117 902 8656).

Barefoot running has a large number of benefits. To name just a few, it improves general running technique, it is less likely than running in shoes to give you feet/ankle/knee injuries, and it is very good for strength and posture.

There is an equal number of myths about it so don't be put off by people saying you get glass in your feet, tread in dog poo, twist your ankle etc.

If anyone would like to go out on a short experimental run or get some tips on how to get started, please get in touch.

Thanks, Dave.

I can heartily recommend doing it to anyone considering going along next time and in fact I recommend the whole Cotswold Way Relay run. I've been part of a rag-tag team of guys and girls from work, we've run the Relay the last 3 years, I've personally done legs 3 and 5 and although it's hard work it's definitely rewarding. Maybe if there's interest, SRC could get a team together for next year?
